A while back, maybe last year, probably longer back on the calendar, my garbage company delivered new containers to the corner of my lot. I don’t know why. There was no communication between us; they just appeared one day. Which would be great, except I already had three of their containers and didn’t really need three more. But I didn’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth, so I stuck them on the side of the house with the others.
Two yard waste and two general waste containers make for a lot of garbage containers on the side of anyone’s home. And two recycling bins in the garage. I had too much of a good thing. I gave one of the containers to the guys at Grab My Junk, who helped me get rid of some remodel scrap, but that still left me with a container I didn’t need.
I ignored it for a long while.
It started annoying me a couple weeks back. So, I sent Waste Management a message explaining that I had extra containers that I’d like picked up. Weirdly, their first question was, what color was the container. Um… green.
Another email asking if it was theirs. It is.
Okay, we’ll come get it. Just leave it on the curb. We’ll pick it up within the next 10 business days. Really?!
That seems like a long time to have a garbage container sitting in front of my house. But whatever. It didn’t take that long. They picked it up the Tuesday after Memorial Day. Garbage day. Do you see where this is going?
Yep. All my trash containers were gone when I got home Tuesday evening. So much for having extras. Now I had none. What am I supposed to do with my trash?
Another message to WM explaining the new situation. A nice apologetic response and a promise to get new containers out to me. Which they did. I had new containers waiting for me on Thursday. Now I have the correct number of trash containers.
That’s it. That’s my story. This is just how things go in my life. Later.
