Rock Band 4
Rock Band 4 came out last week. I didn’t preorder it. I haven’t bought it. I probably wouldn’t play it much. I haven’t played Rock Band 3 in more than a year. But I still kinda want it. It’s like that urge you get to get the band back together, only there is no band to get back together and I don’t really have the time to pretend to be a rockstar or relearn to play a fake guitar. And I certainly don’t have the money to buy all the songs I’d want to play.
Ah well, let’s do a flashback to those glory days of yore.
No Cover
Because I always thought, No Cover, would be funny on the marquee.
Penumbra
That logo screams hair metal band.
Crimson Stranger
Album cover with wizard… can’t miss cool!
Ruptured Rabbit
Not really sure where this one was going…
Apparently, 1988 was the year my “I want to be in a band” mindset hit it’s peak. The year my not-yet-wife bought me a guitar. The year I tried (halfheartedly) to learn to play guitar. And i’m sure the year I wrote lyrics to a hundred songs.
Rock On!

  1. I picked it up along with the new PS4 guitar. Minor changes to the guitar include a better overall feel to it, updates on button text to conform with PS4 naming, no power switch, and no connectivity dongle since it’s got bluetooth guts. It just connects wirelessly like a PS4 dualshock controller. I was also quite happy that my Ion drumset’s PS3-compatible brain is also PS4-compatible.
The jury is still out on the new guitar solo system. While it’s fun, I wish they’d included the option to play the real solos as tabulated (Rock Band-style). Maybe that’ll be added in one of the major patches they’ve said are on the horizon.
You’ll be sad to hear that the band- and character-customization stuff has been severely culled; i.e.: there is no band logo editor at all.
The disc songs are fair/good. There are some gems there, though it feels like maybe half of the disc songs are (unknown-to-me) songs/bands that were released in the past five years or so, so they’ll take some time to become acquainted with. (I ended that sentence with a preposition to bug you. 🙂 )
The interface for bringing in songs that were purchased for previous games is a little cumbersome, but appears to be a work in progress so might improve with patches as well.
In closing, I recommend coming and playing with us when you can. 🙂
