I was in the truck and I thought I would address a few things about this whole Covid-19 experience. You know, from my point of view. I mean, it’s a Truckcast, what else would you expect. Anyway, we’re going to talk about masks and coughs and vaccines and a few other things. Give it a listen–you’ll be saving a life.
That last bit might have been something of an exaggeration, but I would like you to give it a listen. For every listen, an angel gets its wings.
Here is the first Truckcast of 2020. Hell, the first Truckcast in 5-months. I’m way out of practice in both recording/speaking and editing these things… I pray you think it not absolute rubbish.
Anywho, I took to the microphone to try and get you up to speed on a whole variety of things going on around these parts. The index of the podcast might read something like this: web updates, antipathy, DIY & Projects, crafting, pre-diabetes & weight, health & fitness, electric guitar, writing, adobe CC, and wrapping up the episode with a little bit on Dungeons & Dragons.
I’m backdating this by a few days in order to keep my personal timeline in order and to avoid the impression that I am ignoring certain world events. I encourage you to give it a listen. Hopefully, you will find something of interest or entertainment within. And I beg of you to be gentle with your criticisms. Later.
Here is the fruit of my labor. Something new. Something I’m experimenting with. I’m pretty happy with the final result. There are a few parts that feel too scripted and as usual, I’m unhappy with the way I sound, but all in all I’m content with the final product.
arohenRADIO Episode #001: The Inaugural Episode
So, what’s it about? A little introduction to the podcast, some expectations for what will and won’t be on the program, followed by a talk about Grand Rapids MI, and wrap things up with an air conditioning maintenance tip.

There has just been too much going on in my life. Things are busy. I’ve got the podcast mostly recorded, just a couple of fillers left to do. I haven’t even started a video. So the podcast and the video will be delayed until next week. I also think that I may have been to optimistic about getting one of each done every week. I may have to rethink that schedule.
I finished my finals for the semester. I didn’t do as well as I hoped, but I did better than I expected given the content of the tests… There was a lot there that didn’t get covered in the class.
72/80 (90%) HVA 276 Adv Air Cond Refrig & Heating 37/45 (82%) HVA 250 Basic Boiler Operation
So with those two classes out of the way I can concentrate on getting some other things done for the website, for work, and around the house. A week without school is going to be nice.
I’ve just spent hours working on podcasting stuff without actually creating anything. It’s very frustrating. Even more frustrating is that, twice now, I’ve recorded some stuff, only to play it back and have it full of crackle and static. Seems to be cable related, but I may have to start recording with headphones, because there is no indication that it’s occurring during recording. This would be a really good way to lose good content. I think I’ve got headphones around here somewhere, but finding them may be a thing.
I’m going to get something put together over the next few days. I want to have a 30-minute arohenRADIO podcast and something new for arohenTV ready to go next week. That seems doable. I should be able to do that. So let’s say video on Thursday and podcast on Tuesday. That’ll be the plan/goal. I’m trying to get this trio of vanity projects (blog/podcast/vlog) organized. I’ve been over thinking all of it. I’m going to go with quantity over quality for the moment. I’ll throw everything at the wall and see if anything sticks, learn some lessons, and decide which parts I really enjoy doing and which parts are just too much.
In school news, both of my final exams were posted tonight on Blackboard. They’re both open book online tests, so there shouldn’t be to much stress around getting those done. And as an added bonus, here are a couple of things Lady Ronn has put together in her photography classes; she’s starting to learn photoshop and I think she’s doing well. The school must think she’s doing well too, because they keep putting her work up in the halls.
I did pretty well last week, posting every day. This week has been less good. I’ve been playing around with both my microphone and camera set-ups in anticipation of getting back to the podcasting and video posting. Nothing on either front yet, but I’m working on it. Next week is the last week of the semester, so I should be switching gears here shortly.
Tonight, I was working on the basement shelving. Class was canceled, so I had a free night. I had an opportunity to use my new Kreg Shelf Pin Jig and I’ve got to say, it’s pretty slick, easy to use, and really quick. I would recommend it to anyone thinking about getting one. I like the idea behind all the Kreg stuff, but I have to admit that all that blue plastic really turns me off. Because of this I always hesitate to pick up their stuff.
Yes, I know. Somethings should just not be put on the internet… I blame Google Photos Assistant for making these silly things. Later.
I’ve had a great time making the Truckcast and I appreciate those of you who have listened, be that one time or 125 times, but I’m parking the truckcast and taking my podcasting indoors. I don’t have a launch date, a format, or really even a plan quite yet. All I know for sure is that the next podcast you hear from me will be arohenRADIO. Thanks for listening. It’s been a great ride. Maybe we’ll carpool again sometime.
This one is a podcast scramble of bits from five different recording sessions that just didn’t have what it took to go the distance. Some of these tracks are simply to showcase the noise levels I’m fighting against out here on the road. You could think of it as a bunch of junk, but I’d prefer it if you’d be kind and think of it as bonus content. Whatever you want to call it, this is the last of my file of unused clips. Buckle-up. It may get rough.
Let’s talk about trucks, baby. Let’s talk about you and me. Let’s talk about all the stuff that goes into making… Google Chili. Let’s talk about trucks. And probably some other stuff and things and maybe even what-not. This one is going to go long, because, that’s just how we roll… in the truck. Baby.
Give it a listen and I promise, this is the last of the podcasts that will sound like they’re recorded underwater during a piss-poor navigation of a mine field. I’ve got ideas.
Today, I’ve pieced together a few shorter pieces to create a new and more entertaining Truckcast for you today. These pieces were all recorded in a two day span, but I couldn’t manage to record a single long file, because it’s just hard to be entertaining for any stretch of time. Also, some of the audio is full of garbage… not me, other garbage. Anyway, this one is about work, changes, chili, and it’s got music.
Music is by David Szestay, it’s the same thing I added to arohenTV last week. I like it. have a listen.

The Truckcast attempts, with little success, to tackle the issue of idleness, it’s effects on life, and the difference between rest and idleness. But like all these podcasts, Ronn has a bit of an issue staying on topic and in making a cohesive point. Probably not the big up-sell I had planned, but it’s honest.
This would have been a more successful experiment if it had a bit more structure and planning. Eh. It is what it is… me rambling, only with a subject this time around.
