Modern World of the Fantistic

Immortals 00I should be writing. That seems to be the theme lately. But I had this old image in my ‘broken Corel files’ folder. It’s from a series of images I put together to side into the covers of my 3-ring binders for a roleplaying campaign some time back.
Seems that if you go far enough back, probably CorelDraw3 or 4, the files are no longer compatible with the more recent versions of the software. But never fear, I have writing to do, so I recreated it. But in recreating it, I got inspired to a trilogy of stories that would go along with the image and fit nicely into the same world of Thane, Shadow’s Play, and Malach.
So I made some notes and then got to work making covers for these stories that I may never get around to writing. But… I will have these images in a file and they will be able to inspire me to return to the ideas that generated them. So they may prove to be useful in the future.
The Immortals Trilogy
There are things in this world that do not die. Rather, there are things in this world that do not age as we would expect them too. Everything can die. There are demons and angels who live outside of time. Some undead creatures can escape decay and seemingly exist forever. The fae and spirit folk have always been here and will always be. There are others as well, but we do not possess such a gift. Usually. There are some few people, men and women, who have found an exception to the rule of a hundred years that has bound humanity for most all of it’s existance. These are the immortals.

I had a d20 Modern / Urban Fantasy roleplaying campaign a long while ago, in a city pretty far away. But I’ve been carrying around those ideas, and while doing some research for Shadow’s Play, I had a moment and realized how I might realize that idea as a series of novels.

We are in the preliminary stage of one of the greatest battles in history…. That we are in action at many points—in Norway and in Holland—, that we have to be prepared in the Mediterranean. That the air battle is continuous, and that many preparations have to be made here at home.
I would say to the House as I said to those who have joined this government: I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering.
You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: Victory. Victory at all costs—Victory in spite of all terror—Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival.

–Winston Churchill

He was talking about the great war, but he could just as easily have been talking about the conflict and danger that was coming as the Veil was disolved and the world was exposed to everything that exists on the otherside. Of course, like most of my ideas they come to me visually, so I made some covers.

As always, these are compiled from stuff that I scavenged from the internet. I have no claim on the fonts, textures, patterns, pictures, or images I have used to create these collages. I just enjoy putting this stuff together.
